Our story, since 1919

TMJ, headaches & your bite

Some headaches start in the jaw.

A unique part of our practice is treating occlusion (the bite) and TMJ disorders. If the chewing muscles or the joint itself are causing pain, we can help diagnose it and relieve it.

  1. Pain when opening or closing your mouth, or trouble chewing
  2. Headaches or ear pain
  3. Clicking or popping when you open your mouth
  4. Teeth grinding, and a jaw that locks open or shut

What people ask about most.

Full-mouth restoration

It starts with a records appointment: photographs, and impressions that duplicate your own bite. Then a consultation to agree the plan, tooth by tooth.

Implant-retained dentures

Two implants can hold a lower denture firmly in place. One of our patients left denture cream behind that way.

Invisalign

Clear aligners changed every two weeks. Many of our Rocky River Invisalign patients finish in 12 to 24 months.

Snap-On Smile

Two visits, about three weeks apart. No drilling, no extractions, and with proper care it can last 3 to 5 years.

Our technology

See it on the screen, then plan it together.

Our digital x-rays and intraoral cameras give a greater picture of the mouth, and put you in a position to co-plan your care alongside us, because the findings are far easier to share.

  • High definition intraoral photographyImages enlarged on a monitor in the exam room, so specific concerns are easy to point out.
  • Digital radiographsLow-radiation x-rays that show bone loss, decay between teeth and other problems a clinical exam cannot see.
  • Iluma Ultra cone beam CT3D images for precise diagnosis, including whether a bone graft or sinus lift is needed.
  • Electric handpieces & rotary endodonticsDecay removed more efficiently, and root canals completed here with greater ease.

Oral conscious sedation

For anyone who has put off treatment because of nerves.

As easy as taking an aspirin. You stay awake, able to talk and breathe on your own, in a heightened state of relaxation, and it can let long work be done in a single visit. Someone will need to drive you.

New patients

Your first visit, 30 to 60 minutes.

Whether you have not been to a dentist in years or are new to Rocky River, the first appointment is about understanding your whole mouth, and then giving you options rather than pressure.

  1. Dr. Kinsley assesses your oral health and existing restorations
  2. An oral cancer screening, and any x-rays you need
  3. A cleaning with our hygienist, if you are free of gum disease
  4. A custom plan: procedures, costs, estimated insurance and visits

Bring your insurance card; your old x-rays help, but are not required.

Insurance

Our treatment coordinators work with your carrier to maximize your benefits. Checkups and cleanings are usually fully covered up to twice a year, and we estimate what you will owe before treatment starts.

Payment plans

Delayed treatment often costs more: what needs a filling today may need a root canal later. Talk to our treatment coordinators about payment options that let you deal with it early.

A dental emergency?

Questions & answers

What people ask before they book.

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes. Our Rocky River family and cosmetic dental practice is accepting new patients, whether you have not been to a dentist in years or are new to the area. Allow 30 to 60 minutes for the first appointment.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

A copy of your current insurance card, if you have one. It also helps to have your dental records and x-rays sent over from your previous dentist, but that is not required.

Do you work with my insurance?

Our treatment coordinators work with your insurance carrier to maximize the benefits available under your plan. Preventive care such as checkups and cleanings is in most cases fully covered up to twice a year, and before a filling or crown we estimate your benefits, so you know roughly what you will owe before treatment starts.

I get anxious at the dentist. What can you do?

Tell us when you call. Oral conscious sedation keeps you awake but deeply relaxed, and you may not remember part or all of the procedure; you will need someone to drive you. Laughing gas, head rest pillows, blankets, flat screen TVs and soothing music are there too.

Can headaches really come from my bite?

Sometimes. Headaches or ear pain, clicking or popping when you open your mouth, trouble chewing and teeth grinding can all be signs of TMD. Only a professional can tell you whether it is TMD, so come in for a consultation. A night guard is often the first step.

What should I do if a tooth is knocked out?

Call the office as quickly as possible. Do not handle the tooth by the root, and only rinse it gently with tap water if there is visible debris. If you cannot put it back in place, keep it in milk or contact lens solution and bring it to us immediately.

Why are my teeth sensitive?

Often because the gums have receded slightly, letting the underlying dentin show through. There are toothpastes, gels and some dental procedures that help; tell us if your teeth are very sensitive.

Do you have instructions for after surgery?

Yes. We have written instructions for before anesthesia, and for after wisdom tooth removal, dental implant surgery, an impacted tooth and multiple extractions. Ask us for the ones that apply to your treatment.

Where are you, and where do I park?

19433 Detroit Road, Rocky River. Leave your car in our parking lot; Starbucks is a block away and Whole Foods a few minutes’ walk if you are early.
